This morning: Ask Your Ustaz =)

i'm homeee...hehe. Hari Raya Aidiladha is coming up so we get a few days leave even though final is next week. 

for those of you who have no idea what is Hari Raya Aidiladha, let me give you a quick summary: Aidiladha is a time celebrated to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's an Prophet Ismail's sacrifice. thousands of years ago, a wahyu came to Prophet Ibrahim, asking him to slaughter his own son; Prophet Ismail as a sign of faith. both Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail concurred. but just before Prophet Ibrahim slaughtered Prophet Ismail, Allah replaced Prophet Ismail with a big, fat qibas (sheep) to reward both of them and for them to celebrate the day as a Hari Raya. and so, since that day, 10th of Zulhijjah is a Hari Raya (Eid ul-Adha) and muslims across the world can perform the qurban (the sacrifice of livestock animal) during the day from 10th to 13th Zulhijjah. 

as you may have guessed, today's topic on TV9's Tanyalah Ustaz was about sacrifice. but what really captured my attention was about aqiqah. aqiqah is an ibadah perform after the birth of a child to let everyone know about the presence of the newborn. if the newborn is a boy, then two goat should be used for the kenduri and if it's a girl, then only one goat should do. 

during aqiqah, the hair of the baby are being cut (in Malaysia, the men are usually the ones who do the hair-cutting while saying zikir which is praises for The Almighty) and then weighed. if say, the hair weighs 10g, then  the current price of gold for 10g in the market should be the amount of money the parents of the baby that they give to the unfortunates.
