the story of a Kak Farah

i was looking for a copy of my birth certificate (i left the original at the hostel ==') when i came across a bunch of memoirs which are related to Kak Farah.

Kak Farah was my senior back in secondary school. she's one of the nicest person i've come across in this world. we still keep in touch but hardly see each other because she's now in Jakarta, doing what she does best; medic and i'm here, doing what i love most :).

i first met her when i was in form 1 and she was in form 4. i saw her outside her dorm room and was tying her shoelaces, ready for school. the first thought that came to my head was:

"That's Kak Farah the talk of the school? (she was one of the best students) She seems mean."

can you believe my first impression of her? like 360 degree the opposite.

come next year, we were shuffled into different dorm rooms and to my dismay, i got Kak Farah as one of my roommates (it was 8 students per room back then). but slowly, my impression of her changed when she became one of the closest roommate ever. it really struck me that she really is a nice person (not mean like how i made it up in my mind for a year) when she waited for me, everyday in our room, so that we can have lunch together. at the time, she always got out of class earlier than me but she'd wait until my class is over and then proceed to the cafeteria.

and the list of nice things that she did didn't end there but for now that's all i remember.

to KF, i kept these pieces of you all these years. now i don't know if it'll stay kept (my mum has the tendency to throw out things in the house people don't touch for more than five years) so i scanned it so that me, you and other people who cares can see it too:)

she gave this when she was leaving school (i.e. leaving me)

below are the collection of notes she left in my locker when we couldn't see each other (she's a brilliant student so she's got a lot of other places to be at)

when the result of  PEPERIKSAAN SEMESTER AKHIR KURSUS PERSEDIAAN PROGRAM IJAZAH SARJANA MUDA PERGURUAN AMBILAN JUN 2010 were definitely out (i saw a few classmates posting their result. i mean, not their pointers, just whether they're LULUS or GAGAL), i slowly, cautiously, anxiously wrote down my i/c num and waited ------

Purata Nilai Gred (GPA) : *.**

and then my heart -literally- skipped a beat (like how Barney's did when he saw Nora arrived for their first date. i'm watching too much How I Met Your Mother nowadays..+.+)

alhamdulillah. means my rezeki is still to pursue education in Besut, Terengganu. now, i have to say that when i found out that i'm gonna spend the next five-and-a-half years in BESUT??? it was not a good moment. but weighing two options; to be in a great place but not studying, not doing something that i love, OR to be somewhere very remote, far from the city-lights (not that i'm a city-girl with her designer jeans and handbags and spends her weekends sipping green tea frappuccino at Starbucks (i even had to google for that name of beverage at Starbucks =.=) - i just like going to the cinema) but to be studying, to be doing something of my passion? i'd rather do something that i love, doesn't matter where i was.

and after one-and-a-half years in Besut, i won't change the friends, the experience and just about everything for the world. they are awesome and we have been through a lot. camp, trips or just a simple walk to the beach of Bukit Keluang. somehow with 'holiday-goggles' on, i see them all pretty. haha=p

i actually feared that i wouldn't do well in my first exam but now that the first hump is over, i just gotta stay focus so that we'll achieve that M. Ed before thirty!;)

alright people. B. Ed (TESL) sounds so nice. i just hope the degree years are just as good as the foundation years.

in the meantime, there's always the cute Ted, the emotionally-crippled Barney, the best-couple-in-the-world Lily and Marshall and the pretty Robin to accompany my day. and working at my sister's Maya Firuzz :)

p/s: Maya Firuzz's an awesome store in which you can buy blouses, jubahs and tudungs at fabulous prices. do check out the page:)
p/p/s: & oh, i'm sorry that i haven't upload any blouses or tudungs. i'll try sometime before i'm going back to Besut. i'm only a temp after all.

disclaimer: the photos are not mine. i wish they are but they're not. i took 'em from somewhere. google told me where to find 'em.

when the moon is out

then it's a lunar eclipse! lunar eclipse is, according to Wikipedia, a phenomenon that occurs when  when the moon passes behind the earth so that the earth blocks the sun's ray from striking the moon. this can only occur when the sun, earth and moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the earth in the middle. hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon.

for Moslems, we should pray at this time (solat sunat gerhana bulan/matahari). this solat sunat is based on the hadith (from this point onward, i'm gonna speak in malay. sorry for the non-malay speakers. see if google-translate will help) :

Cara Kedua : Disebut dengan  “ الكمال أدنى ” iaitu hendaklah ditunaikan dengan
Selepas
takbir, dibaca doa iftitah dan al-Fatihah.  Selepas selesai al-Fatihah, dibaca surah (mana-mana
surah yang mampu).  Kemudian ruku’ dan bangkit semula (qiam kedua).  Di dalam qiam
kedua ini dibaca al-Fatihah dan juga surah.  Kemudian ruku’ semula (dipanggil ruku’ kedua).
Apabila bangkit I’tidal, terus sujud sebanyak dua kali.

3. Berdiri lurus mengadap kiblat.
4. Berniat mengerjakan solat gerhana.

(1) Lafaz niat untuk gerhana bulan
“ Sahaja aku solat sunat gerhana bulan dua rakaat makmum kerana Allah

(2) Lafaz niat untuk gerhana matahari
“ Sahaja aku solat sunat gerhana matahari dua rakaat makmum kerana Allah

5. Takbiratul Ihram.  Doa Iftitah, Bacaan Al-Fatihah dan Surah.
6. Ruku’ serta tasbihnya dan qiam semula.
7. Baca al-Fatihah dan Surah.
8. Ruku’, I’tidal kemudian sujud 2 kali (seperti biasa).
9. Kemudian qiam semula untuk mengerjakan rakaat kedua.
10. Baca al-Fatihah dan Surah.
11. Ruku’ berserta tasbihnya dan qiam semula.
12. Baca al-Fatihah lagi dan Surah.
13. Kemudian ruku’ I’tidal dan sujud 2 kali, baca tasyahhud akhir dan salam.
14. Selepas itu dibacakan khutbah khas sempena gerhana.  Dua kali khutbah (seperti
khutbah Hari Raya).

2. Maklumat lanjut sila ruju’ kitab Sabilal Muhtadin, karangan Sheikh Mohd Arshad bin
Abdullah Al-Banjari, (Juz. 2 Hal. 58-60).
3. Sembahyang sunat gerhana matahari, segala bacaannya dilakukan dengan suara
perlahan ( سر) , manakala bagi sembahyang sunat gerhana bulan, segala bacaannya
dilakukan dengan suara yang nyaring ( جـهر)

notasaya: kebetulan hari ni baca An-Najm (bintang). esok baca Al-Qamar (bulan) insyaAllah=)

i used to think politics is cool. of course, at the time, my idea of 'politics' was a bunch of men in suits who works on important things like foreign affairs and gets to be inside the parliament building and gets to appear in front of the tv and etc. etc. so i liked it. i wanna be a politician someday. maybe after a few years as an active underling for a certain political party, i'll become a politician.

as i grow older, i learned that politics is a dirty scene and politicians, at a lot of time, cannot help themselves but to succumb to the norm of the politics world. bribery, corruption, and many other bad things of which i'm not sure the correct terms for. if you ever spend any amount of time observing our local political scene, you'll notice it.

and then i don't like politics anymore. i think i don't wanna become an apprentice anymore.

but i seem to be the only one in the family to have a knack for speaking in public. people seem to expect it too (that i can speak in front of people - and good at it. which i doubt until now.)

and then i come across this Japanese series.

this 10-episode series is about Asakura Keita, the disavowed son of a minister. one day, without warning, Keita's father and brother were involved in a plane crash which means Fukuoka, Keita's father area, needed a new representative. that's where Keita stepped in. he was disavowed, but he was a son of a politician after all. speaking publicly and convincingly was in his blood.

then, Keita won the election in Fukuoka. after some very strong twist, somehow Keita was suddenly running for prime minister because he was running for Seiyu party leader (like in Malaysia, if one is the UMNO party leader, one is Malaysia's prime minister. capiche?) and sure enough, he won the election and became Japan's youngest prime minister in history.

and Keita did a splendid job! (say, splendid! - The Final Continent, Jumpa Lhahiri) he looked into every matter very closely before signing into or anything. he would go to the tornado-affected place himself. he would go taste the ashes-covered cabbages to convince people that the cabbages are safe to be eaten. he'd make a wonderful prime minister.

pity that the old geezer Kanbayashi didn't think the same. sometime, you have to agree with Barney. (new is always better. -Barney, How I Met Your Mother)

i dream of the day Malaysia will have a politician like that. better yet, a PRIME MINISTER like that. yes, ideals are ideals because they are hard to be achieved but it's not impossible.

dreams are not impossible.

i don't want to teach the children that there are necessary evil in this world. -Asakura Keita, Change

on another note, when will a local production make a movie about Malaysia's prime minister? (i mean, to touch on our royal Agong, like how they always does on Queen Elizabeth II, is a bit much and perhaps quite impossible)  i mean, a movie on our government should be oh-semm.

wonder who should play DS Najib? Aaron Aziz too good looking wouldn't he be? haha=D

macro's 1st test

enjoy the photos. i know i enjoy snapping 'em (and editing them too! >.<)

This morning: Ask Your Ustaz =)

i'm homeee...hehe. Hari Raya Aidiladha is coming up so we get a few days leave even though final is next week.

for those of you who have no idea what is Hari Raya Aidiladha, let me give you a quick summary: Aidiladha is a time celebrated to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's an Prophet Ismail's sacrifice. thousands of years ago, a wahyu came to Prophet Ibrahim, asking him to slaughter his own son; Prophet Ismail as a sign of faith. both Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail concurred. but just before Prophet Ibrahim slaughtered Prophet Ismail, Allah replaced Prophet Ismail with a big, fat qibas (sheep) to reward both of them and for them to celebrate the day as a Hari Raya. and so, since that day, 10th of Zulhijjah is a Hari Raya (Eid ul-Adha) and muslims across the world can perform the qurban (the sacrifice of livestock animal) during the day from 10th to 13th Zulhijjah.

as you may have guessed, today's topic on TV9's Tanyalah Ustaz was about sacrifice. but what really captured my attention was about aqiqah. aqiqah is an ibadah perform after the birth of a child to let everyone know about the presence of the newborn. if the newborn is a boy, then two goat should be used for the kenduri and if it's a girl, then only one goat should do.

during aqiqah, the hair of the baby are being cut (in Malaysia, the men are usually the ones who do the hair-cutting while saying zikir which is praises for The Almighty) and then weighed. if say, the hair weighs 10g, then  the current price of gold for 10g in the market should be the amount of money the parents of the baby that they give to the unfortunates.

this pic is not mine. thanks

*can't wait to see an aqiqah in the family* :)
tulis kecik-kecik takut abang saya nampak. nanti dia marah pulak. hihi.

Panduan lengkap awal Zulhijjah (Guidelines in early Zulhijjah)

not sure what made me think that re-posting this amazing article of guidelines in the month of Zulhijjah here will get more people to read it, but it's my way to remind myself while reminding others. hopefully we will all gain something from it;) (credit: Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia

a. Imam Nawawi pernah ditanya tentang puasa sembilan hari pertama Zulhijjah. Maka dia menjawab, “Ia sangat digalakkan.”
b. Imam Ahmad meriwayatkan, “Rasulullah SAW berpuasa pada sembilan hari pertama Zulhijjah.”
c. Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab berkata, “Tiada halangan untuk menggantikan puasa Ramadhan pada sepuluh hari pertama Zulhijjah.”
d. Hasan Basri berkata, “Berpuasa sehari di dalam sepuluh hari pertama Zulhijjah menyamai puasa dua bulan.”
Amalan: Puasa sembilan hari pertama Zulhijjah.
Amalan: Menunaikan hajat manusia setiap hari.
a. Salafussoleh RA mempelbagaikan ibadat pada sepuluh hari pertama Zulhijjah.
ؠ Berusaha mengkhatamkan Al-Quran sepanjang sepuluh hari pertama Zulhijjah. Jika tidak, maka sejuzuk setiap hari.
ؠ Melazimi solat dhuha, sunat rawatib, witir dan sebagainya.
ؠ Makan sahur atau berbuka bersama keluarga atau ahli rumah setiap hari atau sekurang-kurangnya tiga hari.
(Toha: 84)

selamat berjuang wira-wira

(saya mungkin tak tengoklah sebab pengalaman lalu menonton satu-satu perlawanan sukan yang saya menyokong salah satu pasukan, selalunya yang saya sokong itu tak bernasib baik. ridiculous, i know.)

saya selalu macam ini. bila pasukan tu nampak cemerlang gemilang terbilang barulah saya nampak sibuk-sibuk menyokong dan sebagainya. tapi bila pasukan tu suram-suram, gelap gelita aja, (contoh: Arsenal), senyap saya seperti senyapnya mereka. haha. hypocrite, i know.

but hey, i try to remain faithful to Arsenal. i mean, they're still my favourite EPL team. i just don't say much about them now because, well, because there isn't much to talk about. i know they'll be facing Chelsea tomorrow (good luck, Gunners!) but i don't dare to hope for much. is that a crime?

anyway, good luck Terengganu! Semarak Darul Iman, Sokongan Sepanjang Zaman...~

dan saya pun harus pergi berjuang untuk diri sendiri. final exam is approaching. good luck for us all:)

In Time

basically it's about what if our life, the time span we have left in this world, is the currency?

ya know, even with money as currency (or gold, or silver, or diamond; your call) we have crime rates which are impossible to tackle. i really hope what happens in this movie, stays in the movie.

other than that, JT is still a fine specimen of a man.

In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Here, Will Salas finds himself accused of murder and on the run with a hostage - a connection that becomes an important part of the way against the system.

chim chum away! :D

five of us a.k.a. the 'Hang Kenaris' (me, jie, nadz, ijat & dayah) went to KB last Wednesday. dayah wanna find a new of headphone & the rest of basically just dying to taste the food at the Food Village, the highly-praised chim-chum.

but before Food Village, we stopped by KB Mall for the headphones. i was starving so me and ijat took a 'light' late lunch at Pizza Hut.

ijat's hungry expression

char-grilled cheese baked rice

meatball bolognaise

chim-chum is like the infamous yong tau foo (variety of processed food boiled in hot water then dipped in sweet or spicy sauce) but with a lot more variety and honestly, in Food Village you can eat until you drop! (like the expression 'shop till you drop' but not as good =.=) it's a all-you-can eat buffet. ah, nice!

serious eating face

seafood frenzies!

from left: thirah & hani also enjoyed themselves

so did aen (with her hidden boyfriend. haha!)

kenyang faces

they were too, kenyang! were they.

happy-kenyang face

the 'rojak betik'

gasp! what eating habit. tsk, tsk.

this place had been visited by JJCM

FOOD VILLAGE. Business hours: 5.00pm - 12.00midnight

so there. chim chum was nice. i think i'd wanna go again. hehe.

ps: wish me luck for my debate. but then again, i don't wanna be in the game for too long so that i can go around KL. hehe=p
